Mr. Qureshi has been involved in international arbitrations before the International Chamber of Commerce, Paris (ICC), International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (“ICSID”), Washington, the Arbitration Institute of Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and Ad Hoc Tribunals.
He specializes in construction/engineering and public-private partnership contracts, project finance, securitization, corporate, constitutional, arbitration, human resource policies, public-private partnerships, and advisory work.
Besides leading one of the premier ADR practices in Pakistan for 35 years, he has acted as counsel to the Government of Pakistan, multinational organizations, banks, diplomatic missions, and others.
As legal counsel, in Islamabad, he has provided legal services:
– In 2019 to China Gazuba Group Company in Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project, which related to the construction of Hydro Power Project, in relation to contract administration and Client’s claims against the Employer.
– In 2018 to China Gazuba Group Company in Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, , which related to the construction of Hydro Power Project, in relation to, development and financial close of the project.
– In 2019 to project company in Karot Hydropower Project, , which related to the construction of Hydro Power Project, in relation to, land acquisition, land owners’ litigation and employment related issues.
– In 2017 to project company in Iqbal Power Project , which related to the construction of Hydro Power Project, in relation to, negotiations for transfer of the project by the sponsors.
– In 2020 to China Gazuba Group Company in Dasu Hydro Power Project, , which related to the construction of Hydro Power Project, in relation to, finalization of the client’s Bid and review of the contract documents.
– In 2018 to-date, to Voith Germany in Tarbela 4 th ExtensionVoith (Germany and China) , which related to the construction of Hydro Power Project, in relation to, contract administration, proceedings before the Dispute Board and claims of the client against the Employer (WAPDA).
– Experience in the capacity of counsel to various banks and leasing companies, including (Khushali Bank (to-date), Askari Bank (to-date), Askari Leasing (till 2018), Khaber Bank (todate), First MicroFinance Bank (2012-2016) have experience of reviewing, commenting on, amending and advising in connection with documents, agreements, letters (e.g. deeds of mortgage, hypothecation, fixed and floating charges, assignments of choses in action and insurances, trusts, direct agreements, etc.)
– Creating security in favour of lenders to finance; measures for perfection of security including stamping and registration of security documents with the registration authorities (Khushali Bank and Khaber Bank (to-datae).
– Assisted in the conduct of financial forensic audit of the Claimant’s claim in the mtter of Bayindir Insaat Inc. Turkey vs Pakistan in 2022.
– Assisted in the conduct of financial forensic audit of the Claimant’s claim in the matter of Agility, Kuwait v Pakistan in 2015.
